Overview of Academics

Curriculum

Your word, O Lord, is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.  Psalm 119:105
Our teachers use a variety of curriculum in our preschool classrooms to provide a wide range of active, hands-on learning experiences.  Our curriculum includes:
  • Learning Without Tears: an age-appropriate writing, literacy, and math curriculum designed with preschoolers in mind. This curriculum offers many hands-on activities to help make learning enjoyable and fun.
  • Bible lessons are incorporated daily through morning chapel time and daily activities in our classrooms.
  • Healthy Habits for Life is a fitness and nutrition curriculum that the teachers use throughout the year.

Assessments & Portfolios

Teachers monitor each child’s progress on an on-going basis throughout the year. They use observations, assessment tools, and work samples to gain insight to the child’s developmental level. Assessments are done twice per year; once in January and again at the end of the year. Assessments are reviewed with the parents at parent-teacher conferences in October and sent home at the end of the school year.

In addition, a portfolio is created for each child and given as a keepsake to the parents at the end of the school year. The portfolio paints a vivid picture of your child’s progress through our early childhood program and is a wonderful memento to remember these precious years.

Goals

Our goals for children attending Calvary Murrieta Christian Preschool are:
  • To know they are beautifully and wonderfully made, unique, special, and that Jesus loves them
  • To maintain a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment
  • To facilitate learning through hands-on activities and learning experiences
  • To respect children’s uniqueness and recognize and celebrate their individual differences
  • To create a trusting, predictable environment
  • To develop an environment that says “YES” to exploring, experimenting, discovering, having fun with friends and being a child!
  • To emphasize the “process” (which is the immersion in the “doing”) rather than the “product”
  • To use positive language
  • To model empathy and compassion
  • To encourage children to take risk
  • To help children make a balance of choices
  • To keep a sense of humor and create laughter
  • To provide a “child-centered program” which develops from the interests of the children as well as successfully planned and implemented units
  • To cultivate curriculum which is continually developed and revised to ensure a variety of developmentally appropriate growth
